Florida Post-Licensing On Your Schedule

You must renew your Florida real estate license every 18-24 months. The first step is completing your required continuing education hours. The first time you renew, you need to complete a FREC-approved 45-hour Florida Post-licensing Real Estate course and pass the final exam.

For subsequent renewals, you need to complete 14 hours of continuing education from a licensed provider. Those courses must include three hours of core law, three hours of ethics and business practices, and eight hours of specialty education.

If you fail to complete your post-licensing education during your first renewal cycle, your license becomes null and void. That means you must retake your entire pre-licensing course, pass the course exam, and retake the state exam. It’s very important to leave enough time to take and pass the 45-hour Florida Post-licensing Real Estate course and exam during your first renewal period!

For subsequent renewals, if you fail to complete your continuing education hours and renew in time, your license will become involuntarily inactive. You cannot practice real estate with an inactive license. In the first 12 months after your initial expiration date, you can reactivate your license by taking 14 hours of continuing education, applying online, and paying a late fee.

12-24 months after your expiration date, you have to take 28 hours of reactivation education, apply online, and pay a late fee. If your license has been expired for 25+ months, you’ll have to redo your pre-licensing education and retake the state exam.

Good news, you only have to take the course once! It must be completed before your first license renewal or your license will become null and void.
