What Courses are Required for a South Carolina Real Estate License?

To get your South Carolina real estate license, you just need to complete two courses:

  1. A 60-hour Real Estate Principles and Practices course (often referred to as “Unit I), and
  2. A 30-hour Advanced Real Estate Principles course (often referred to as “Unit II”).

Both courses are designed to teach you the real estate concepts you’ll use every day in your new real estate career. From ownership rights to the basics of contract law, your courses will help prepare you to be a competent real estate professional.

When to Take Your South Carolina Real Estate Courses

Interestingly, you don’t have to take both courses before you sit your South Carolina real estate exam. You can apply to take your real estate exam as soon as you complete Unit I. Then you just need to complete Unit II before you can apply for your real estate license.

While some agents choose to take both courses before sitting the exam, most agents prefer to save the second course for after the exam. Both courses are packed with information, and for most agents, it’s easier to take the real estate exam while the material from the first course is still fresh in their minds.

You have a full year after you pass your real estate exam to complete your second course, find a sponsoring broker, and apply for your real estate license.

Where to Take Your South Carolina Real Estate Courses

You can take both South Carolina real estate courses from any educational provider approved by the South Carolina Labor Licensing Regulation department (SCLLR).

Consider an online real estate school if you are in a hurry to get your new career started. Online schools allow you to work at your own pace, which means you can breeze through the material faster than if you were attending weekly real estate classes at a school campus.

To make the most of your required South Carolina real estate courses, choose a provider with engaging course material. AceableAgent, for example, gives you a mix of text, images, audio, and video to make the material more memorable. And with AceableAgent, the courses are designed for mobile use, allowing you to learn and study directly from your tablet or cell phone when you’re on-the-go!
