Why a Real Estate Agent Is an Excellent Remote Career

The pandemic changed many Americans' expectations about their work environment. People who work from home are just as, if not more, productive than if they worked in an office, according to a ZipRecruiter survey. Many workers are refusing to return their office and quitting if their employer doesn't accommodate them.

Working from home has many advantages. You save money on transportation, food, clothing, and other expenses associated with commuting to an office. You can live in a more affordable area, spend more time with your family, and have more control over your workday.

To get your real estate license, you can take your pre-licensing courses online. From there, you can join an online brokerage and work remotely on your own time.

If you've been thinking about switching to a remote career, consider real estate! Wherever there are homes, people need real estate agents. Wherever you are, you can have a successful real estate career working from home. Here are some benefits of real estate as a remote job.

Get Your Training and License Remotely

To get started with your real estate career, you first need to get a license. Thankfully, getting your real estate license remotely is easy! Just take an online, self-paced course to prepare for the licensing exam. You can fit the training into your daily life and continue to work and take care of your family. A few weeks or a few months, take all the time you need. Once you're ready, you can take the exam online as well.

Once you pass the exam, congratulations! You are now a licensed real estate agent in your state.

Enter a Rewarding and Fulfilling Profession

In our survey of 800 real estate agents, 85% said they were happy with their career choice. Breaking it down, agents we surveyed said they were attracted to the earning potential, the flexibility, and the opportunity to earn more if they put in more work.

Flexibility and control over your hours were two of the main reasons why surveyed agents enjoyed their work. A whopping 93% enjoyed the flexibility, and 81% mentioned the benefits of controlling their own hours.

Enjoy the Benefits of Working from Home

Although many real estate agents work from an office, it's not necessary to be successful. With technology and changes from the pandemic, it's easier than ever to be both efficient and successful working from home as a real estate agent.

  • Less commute. As a real estate agent, you'll have to travel to visit and show houses. But you can reduce your commute time by working from home rather than in an office. You can meet your clients in their homes or over video chat. This gives you more time to spend with your family (or to work, if you prefer!), and saves you money on fuel.

  • Better work-life balance. Working your own hours and schedule flexibility allows you to improve your work-life balance. You can take care of your family when they need you. You can plan your work around other important activities and obligations in your life. Without long commutes, you can spend more time on the things that matter most to you.

  • Improved mental health. Remote work improves your mental health. The ZipRecruiter survey reports that 38% reported feeling happier because of remote work, compared to 11% who felt sadder. Even better, it appears remote work can lower your stress levels, with 41% of respondents feeling less stressed compared to 11% feeling more stressed.

Home Office, Best Office

Marketing, paperwork, website management, phone calls and client follow-ups are all things you can do from home. And if your business grows big enough that you need an assistant, you can also hire them to do the work virtually, keeping your overhead costs low.

Remote work is here to stay, and many jobs can be performed just as effectively from home. If you are looking for a career with unlimited earning potential and all the benefits of working from home, real estate is a great choice!
