The real estate market in the Savannah metro area is thriving. If you want to join in on all of the excitement of selling a house, you can start applying for your real estate license today. Follow these helpful tips on how to get your real estate license in Georgia.
Confirm That You Meet the Georiga Real Estate License Requirements
The state of Georgia requires only a few things of those who want to get their real estate license.
You need to be over the age of 18
You need to have your high school diploma or GED
You need to be able to pass a background check (those who have a criminal record need to go through additional steps)
Finish Your Georgia Pre-License Courses
The Georgia Real Estate Commission requires 75 hours of pre-licensing education to get your real estate license. If you know you meet the minimum requirements for the license, the next step is to sign up for these courses. They are available through in-person classes, or you can complete them entirely online at AceableAgent.com.
How to Take Your Real Estate Exam in Savannah
Once you complete your 75-hours of pre-licensing education, it is time to register for your real estate exam. PSI is the company that administers the tests for Georgia. To make sure you don't miss anything when getting ready to register for the exam, follow all of the detailed steps in the Georgia Real Estate Examination handbook.
There are three ways to register: online, by calling 888-818-5834, or by mail. The cost of the exam is $119, which is payable by credit card, cashier's check, or money order.
The only location to take the test in Savannah is at the Orlean Building, located at 6001 Chatham Center Drive, Suite #155, Savannah, GA 31405. Unfortunately, nearby suburbs like Hinesville, Statesboro, and Pooler do not have their own testing facilities, so you'll need to head into Savannah.
Cell phones are not permitted inside this building at any time. You need to bring a government-issued photo ID along with a second form of identification with you to the testing site.
Once you pass the test, you are issued a Certificate of Accuracy Statement. Make sure you do not sign this statement until you are ready to apply for your license. You can apply right after taking the test if you already have a sponsored broker.
Have a Savannah Broker Sponsor You
The Georgia Real Estate Commission requires that a broker sponsors you before you can apply for your real estate license. The reason they require a broker is that they want someone who is willing to educate, mentor, and train you to have success in the real estate industry. You will have much more success working with someone who cares about you than being out there on your own.
